Latvia Proposes a Delay to B2B E-Invoicing Mandate

On April 16, 2025, the Latvian parliament (Saeima) submitted a draft amendment to the Accounting Law proposing to postpone the country's B2B e-invoicing mandate by one year. If adopted, the new go-live date would change from January 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027.

Why the Delay?

The proposed change—now under review by the Budget and Finance (Tax) Committee—is aimed at ensuring a smooth and effective rollout. Lawmakers cite the need to give businesses additional time to prepare, finalize technical frameworks, and align internal processes with national standards.

The delay would also allow authorities to fine-tune regulatory details and implementation procedures, reducing the risk of disruptions once the mandate becomes enforceable.

What's Next?

While the law is still in draft form, businesses should monitor developments closely. If the amendment is adopted, it will offer a welcome extension for companies still adjusting their systems to meet structured e-invoicing requirements.
